Bethesda Lake - Fishing, Kayaking, Swimming

PRIVATE SPRING FED LAKE, EXCLUSIVELY FOR GUESTS OF BETHESDA LAKE RESORT AND CABINS

Constructed in 1925 as part of Lake Bethesda Resort, Bethesda Lake is a spectacular spring fed mountain lake that is now privately owned by the modern Bethesda Lake Resort. It is located on resort property and available exclusively for guests. The lake is spring fed by 13 springs in the bottom of the lake as well as 4 springs uphill from the lake. Bethesda Lake is not open to the public. The resort was previously known as Stonehill Cottages, but was rebranded after the lake was purchased on September 6, 2019. It is truly a local treasure.

Another feature of the Bethesda Lake property is the piped springs captured in the 1800’s. They are truly naturally occurring mountain springs that have been captured and piped. These springs were widely known in the 1800’s as having healing properties. More information will be posted on the springs as it becomes available.

Fishing

Bethesda Lake has been widely known as a popular fishing spot for many years. The lake is currently CATCH AND RELEASE ONLY. There are many species of fish in the lake including largemouth bass, black crappie, bluegill, rewear, triploid carp and koi (the koi aren’t for fishing). The best bait for the lake is a spinner bait or live worms which can be bought at the local Walmart.  The lake is under video 24/7 with night vision cameras.

Waterfall and Bethesda Creek Swimming Area

In addition to the springs, there is a wonderful waterfall on the downstream side of the lake dam.  The waterfall is a very tranquil spot and is also home to the Bethesda Creek swimming hole. Shortly after purchasing the lake, the terrain under the dam was altered to create a beautiful waterfall fed swimming area. “Bethesda Creek” is shady and perfect for swimming in the heat of the summer. Since the lake is spring fed, the water is always cool and never stagnant.
